7 Prayers to Your Father, Part 6

7 Prayers to Your Father, Part 6
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

#6  The prayer of victory

"And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."

Father, I am thankful I can walk with You. Your steps follow the highway of holiness. It is such a clean, pure, and righteous journey! I know You will never tempt me to sin or to do evil. Help me to see each temptation I face as an opportunity to move closer to You. You are my victory over evil, darkness, sin and fear.

In Jesus' name, amen.

In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen (Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV).

#5  The prayer of trust

"Give us this day our daily bread."

Father, thank You for caring for me and taking care of me. Your eye is upon me. Your hand upholds me.
You know my needs and meet my needs. You are my faithful provider.

Daily my eyes look to You, my faith trusts in You, my spirit receives from You. You are the keeper and sustainer of all my days.

7 Prayers to Your Father, Part 4
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

#4  The prayer of mercy and kindness

"Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors."

Father, how merciful and gracious You are.

My sin had separated my life from Yours. It is only because of the shed blood of Your Son that I have been forgiven, that I can call You Father, and that I have a relationship and fellowship with You. From my heart may there be a free flowing stream of Your mercy, grace, and forgiveness to others.

-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

#3  The prayer of obedience

“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

Father, May Your will be done in me. How blessed I am to be the child of the King. You reign! You rule. You are in charge of my life. Your desires shape my choices. May Your will be my delight, may Your steps be my pathway. Thank You for the privilege I have to follow You. I know You make no mistakes and will never mislead me.

#2  The prayer for a life that pleases Him

"Hallowed be Your name."

Father, You are my perfect, flawless heavenly Father. Holy are You and beautiful in all Your ways.

Let the light of Your countenance shine upon my life—Your character, Your ways, Your truth. As Your child, I want to please and honor You. May the meditation of my heart bring a smile to Yours.

7 Prayers to Your Father, Part 1

Hello Friends!
As we turn to focus on our relationship with God, we will be featuring Roy's series "7 Prayers to Your Father" based on the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:9-13. May this remind us how Jesus invites and instructs us to pray to our Father, HIS Father, each time we come to Him. We pray our prayer life will grow in the coming days and weeks, leading to a fruitful and powerful relationship with Him.

1.  The prayer that calls God “Father.”

"Our Father in heaven..."

Father, because of the salvation I have found in Your Son, I am not an outsider or a stranger in Your family. I am Your child. Adopted and redeemed. Thank You for coming to make Your home in me, and providing for me, a home with You, forever.

You are a good, loving, and caring Father.

Whom have I in heaven but You, and apart from You there is no other.
-In Jesus' name, amen.

The Provider and the Provision

The Provider and the Provision
-Roy Lessin

Then the LORD said to Elijah, “Go to the east and hide by Kerith Brook, near where it enters the Jordan River. Drink from the brook and eat what the ravens bring you, for I have commanded them to bring you food.” So Elijah did as the LORD told him and camped beside Kerith Brook, east of the Jordan. The ravens brought him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he drank from the brook. But after a while the brook dried up, for there was no rainfall anywhere in the land. Then the LORD said to Elijah, “Go and live in the village of Zarephath, near the city of Sidon. I have instructed a widow there to feed you” (1 Kings 17 2-9 NLT).

Throughout Scripture God promises and reassures His people that He is their provider. The promises of God never change and are never depleted.

Elijah had many supernatural God stories in His life. 1 Kings 17 is one example of the amazing ways God provided for the prophet.

After Elijah spoke a prophetic word about a coming drought, he was told by God to go to a brook called Kerith. It was here that God provided food and water for the prophet in a most unusual way. But the place and the provision were not permanent.

It was not in God’s plan for Elijah to retire at the brook Kerith. One day the brook dried up! When it did, God told Elijah to move on to a new place that had been prepared for him. The new location and the means God would use to sustain him were completely different from what he had known by the brook.

God wants each of us to fully trust Him as our provider. His promises assure us that He will. However, He does not want us to put our trust in the sources or resources He uses to sustain us. Like Elijah, “our brook” may dry up, but the promise of God’s provision will never dry up under any circumstance.

God may move you to a different location, to a new job, or to a different set of circumstances, but He will always remain faithful. He is your loving Father who cares for you. He will not stop being your provider. He knows the plans He has for you, and He is working out His plan.

PS. Just before I started writing this posting I looked out our kitchen window and saw what is shown below. To me, it was the perfect visual for the thoughts I was about to write. The God who provides the Cardinal with a sheltered place from the winter snow, will also provide for you and me a sheltered place to cover us through every storm we face in life.

The Lord provides!

Unto You, Part 20: The Indescribable Gift

Unto You, Part 20: The Indescribable Gift
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

This will be the last post in our Christmas series, Unto You. We hope that you have been encouraged and blessed, and will remember that Jesus is our Indescribable Gift. We look forward to continuing to walk through scripture, with prayer and encouragement in the coming year! -Marina
...
The beauty, the wonder, the glory, and the celebration of our hearts at this season of the year is because of God’s indescribable gift. The gift is not peace or joy, although the gift brings peace and joy. The gift is not just a babe in a manger—the gift is a Savior. The gift is not just a man—the gift is the Messiah. The gift was not given to make us outwardly pious, but inwardly alive. The gift is life and love, grace and truth, righteousness and everything that is good. The gift is a person. The gift is God’s Son. The gift is Jesus Christ. Jesus does not have the way—He is the Way. He does not have truth—He is the Truth. He does not have life—He is the Life. When we receive God’s gift we receive Jesus, and when we have Him we have everything.

All that our hearts have ever desired, every need we face, every truth we seek, and every blessing we long for is found in Jesus Christ. There is no other person, no other relationship, no other provision, and no other source that God will use to meet our deepest needs. All things are in Jesus Christ, and we are complete in Him. He is the Fountain that quenches our thirst, the Bread that nourishes our souls, the Light that dispels our darkness, the Physician that heals our wounds, the Shepherd that guides our steps, the Counselor that gives us wisdom, the Word that establishes us in truth, the Faithful One that gives us security, the Vine that nourishes our spirits, the Dayspring that gives us hope, the Door that gives us access to the Father, and the Mighty God that rules our hearts.

What a love! What a Savior! What a gift! May our hearts be open to receive Him, may our faith be ready to trust Him, may our wills be surrendered to obey Him, may our feet and hands be committed to follow Him, may our faces be anointed to reflect Him, may our actions and attitudes be righteous to honor Him, and may our voices be uplifted to praise Him…now and forever.

But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name (John 1:12).

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).

Unto You, Part 19: Unto Us Came God’s Perfect Gift

Unto You, Part 19: Unto Us Came God’s Perfect Gift
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Jesus truly is God’s gift too wonderful for words! To think upon Jesus opens the door to a vast chamber of thoughts that are praiseworthy. There is not a single thought about Jesus that will bring you regret or embarrassment, and there is not a single remembrance that will bring you shame. There is nothing in His character that brings disappointment, and there is nothing in His nature that brings hurt. Think about His ministry and you find a servant. Think about His wonders and you see the mighty hand of God. Think about His blessings and you discover His compassion. Think about His tenderness and you see His Shepherd’s heart.

Think about Jesus’ names and your thoughts will lead your heart into ceaseless praise. He is called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, and The Prince of Peace. He is our Banner, Rock, Foundation, High Priest, Redeemer, Deliverer, Healer, Saviour, King, Lord, and Master. He is the Bread of Life, The Way, The Truth, The Word, The Dayspring, and The Bright and Morning Star. He is the Seed of David, The Lion of Judah, Messiah, The Alpha and Omega—The Lord of all.

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6 NLT).

Unto You, Part 18: Unto Us Came the Triumphant King

Unto You, Part 18: Unto Us Came the Triumphant King
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Praise is the heart’s celebration of the victory that Jesus Christ has won. He faced Satan and defeated him, He faced temptation and resisted it, He faced suffering and overcame it, He faced death and defeated it, and He faced the grave and triumphed over it.

Once Jesus was wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manager—now He is seated on a throne. Once rulers rejected him—now He is at His Father’s right hand. Once He was despised and rejected—now He is exalted and glorified. Once He was the suffering servant—now He is the triumphant King.

Jesus Christ is the only one worthy of all praise. There is no name that is higher than His, there is no throne that is greater than His, and there is no kingdom that is mightier than His. He is worthy because His righteousness is indisputable, His redemptive work is irrefutable, His glory is incomparable, and His majesty is undeniable.

Unto You, Part 17: Unto Us Came the Lamb of God

Unto You, Part 17: Unto Us Came the Lamb of God
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

God sent His Son into the world, not to have fun or to be comfortable, but to suffer and die. His death was not a martyr’s death. His life wasn’t taken from Him—He offered it up freely. He didn’t die for a cause—He died for us. That one truth alone gives each person on earth a reason to get up every morning with a thankful heart.

Think of it, Jesus did more than die for the world…He did more than die for your neighbor…He died for you. He died forsaken, so that you would never need to be alone. He died beaten, so that you could be made whole. He died broken, so that your heart could be mended. His death brought you life, His poverty brought you riches, His judgment brought you mercy, and His pain brought you healing. His humility lifted you up, His obedience made you an heir, and His blood washed you whiter than snow.

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9:15 NIV).

He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:32 NIV).

Once, before the foundations of the world, Jesus and His Father had a conversation about the great plan of redemption. That conversation included you. Jesus looked down the corridors of time and knew that you would be born. He saw you when He said to His Father, “I will go.” What an incredible journey He made; what an overwhelming expression of love He made; what an awesome purpose He had in mind. You were on His heart. When He left His home in heaven, He saw you. When He became a man on earth, He was seeking you. When He stretched out His hands upon the cross, He was reaching out to you. When He returned to His Father, He was preparing a place for you. You are the sheep He has come to shepherd, to guide, to feed, to protect, to shelter, and to carry. You are the one He calls His own.

“…Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” (Revelation 5:12 NIV).

Unto You, Part 16: Unto Us Came the One Who is Worthy

Unto You, Part 16: Unto Us Came the One Who is Worthy
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

On a natural level, the worship of Jesus as a baby didn’t make sense. His life was still untested and unproven. He had not yet said anything, nor had He done anything that would substantiate Him as the long-awaited Messiah. His birthplace gave no indication of His royalty. The economic status of his parents spoke nothing of His influence or power, and His bed of hay spoke nothing of His kingly throne or crown.

The true worship of Jesus was not based on what was seen with natural eyes, but instead, on what was seen with spiritual eyes. With the eyes of faith, the true worshiper saw who Jesus was, why He had come, and from where He had come.

They worshiped because the tiny babe in the manger was the Son of God. He was the One who was there at the beginning, speaking into existence the heavens, the earth, and all that live upon it.  He was the One who knew eternal fellowship with His Father in heaven, and He was the One who was adored by the entire heavenly host.

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker (Psalm 95:6 NIV).

Worship is so much more than singing choruses, playing musical instruments, or lifting our hands in praise. Worship is not found in the volume of our voices, but in the meekness of our spirits; not in the beat of our music, but in the bending of our knees; not in our outward gestures, but in our yielded hearts.

Worship is not created in us by talking, reading, hearing, or singing about Jesus. Worship is created in us as Jesus is made real to us. To know Him, to really know Him, throws the doors of worship wide open. Worship is about Jesus—His beauty, His glory, His majesty, and His loveliness. When our hearts see Jesus, we worship—we can’t help ourselves.

When God brings His firstborn into the world, He says,
‘Let all God's angels worship Him.’ (Hebrews 1:6 NIV).

Angels are magnificent heavenly beings that fulfill God’s will, and fill us with amazement. We are overcome with their greatness, their glory, and their service. When we read of their works throughout Scripture we stagger at their strength and power, we marvel at their words and authority, and we tremble at their greatness and awesomeness.

As magnificent as angels are, their glory pales in the light of Jesus Christ. Their greatness is but a shadow compared to the One whose splendor outshines the sun. Their service is but a gesture when we look upon Him who came to serve and give His life as a ransom for many. The angel’s works are but tiny tokens of God’s goodness compared to the redemptive work of Christ upon the cross. Their strength and power wane as we look upon Him who is seated at the right hand of the Father. Their words and authority take a minor role compared to Him who is the Word become flesh—Emmanuel, God with us.

The greatest revelation that came to the wise men was the discovery that the answers they sought were not to be found in pagan practices, but in a person. They left behind the darkness of the Medes and Persians as they followed the light of His star. They left behind the rituals and reasoning of man as they sought the true Wisdom of God. They left behind the practices of magic and sorcery as they looked for the One true Master. They left behind the vanity and idolatry of corrupt rulers as they journeyed to worship the new born King.

To seek Jesus is to seek reality. He not only has directions for us to follow, but He is the pathway upon which we travel. He not only has things to say to us, but He is the Truth we seek to know. He not only has the answers for our existence, but He is the Eternal Life that we so desperately seek.

A glorious truth of Scripture is the certainty that if we seek after the Lord we will not be disappointed. Seekers are finders. The beauty of God’s promise is what we find and Who we find as the result of our seeking. We not only find peace, but we also find the Prince of Peace. We not only find righteousness, but we also find the Righteous One. We not only find counsel, but we also find the Counselor. We not only find wonders, but we also find the Wonderful One. We not only find spiritual food, but we also find the Bread of Life. We not only find provision, but we also find the Shepherd of our souls. We not only find salvation, but we also find the Saviour. We not only find the Kingdom, but we also find the King.

In this world there are things we desire and things we need. Houses, clothing, food, and transportation all fall under the category of “things.” Things are not evil or sinful, but they are temporary. They have no eternal value. The gifts we unwrap at Christmas will one day find their way to a trash bag or a yard sale table. The wise men from the East knew the difference between what was temporal and what was eternal. They left their homes and families to seek the Pearl of Greatest Price. They wanted to see and know for themselves the Eternal Word that became flesh and dwelt among us.

The value of finding Jesus Christ is beyond measure. His worth is more than a field filled with diamonds—He is a limitless treasure chest of priceless gems and precious stones. He is more than a mineshaft filled with gold nuggets—He is an endless vein of pure gold. His splendor is more glorious than a thousand sunsets, and His majesty is nobler than all the kings who have ever reigned.  His grace is greater than our arms can embrace, His beauty is more than our eyes can behold, and His love is deeper than our hearts can explore. How truly great is the reward of the one who seeks Him.

‘For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ (John 3:16 NIV).

Unto You, Part 15: Unto Us Came Every Spiritual Blessing

Unto You, Part 15: Unto Us Came Every Spiritual Blessing
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

May you find Jesus to be—
the peace for every struggle,
the supply for every need,
the solution for every problem,
the escape for every temptation,
the release for every burden,
the balm for every pain,
the comfort for every sorrow,
the victory for every battle,
the wisdom for every decision,
the strength for every endeavor,
the hope for every tomorrow,
the song for every day.

I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency] (Philippians 4:13 AMP).

Happy New Year...
