My Morning Prayer: The Comfort of Protection
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow
This I declare about
the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I
trust him. He
will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His
faithful promises are your armor and protection. Psalm 91:2,4 NLT
It’s important for
children (and grown-ups!) to feel safe and secure. Many things can trouble them and cause them
to become frightened and insecure—a dark room, a loud noise, unfamiliar
surroundings, a strange face, a storm. The need to be sheltered, protected and
cared for, remain with us throughout life.
When the disciples were
with Jesus on a stormy sea, they became fearful and came to Him for help (He
was asleep on the boat at the time). It took Jesus but a moment to quiet the
storm and calm their fears. They needed to be reassured they were in the
presence of the one who cared about them and could protect them from any storm.
Through prayer, we can ask that ourselves and our children
will daily be reassured of God’s presence, His watch care, His hand of covering,
and His ever-present help in every time of need.
